You will want to place your chair in the room where it will be most convenient for you, such as near the television, radio, reading light, end table, or other furniture. Leave enough space between the back of the chair and a wall or any other obstruction. This allows the chair to recline (about 18 inches for standard models, 25 inches for StellarComfort models). Recline space needed may vary based on the specific chair model (see your chair’s manual).
Do not allow any objects to restrict movement of the footrest. Some carpets have a high plush pile that can rub on the bottom of the footrest. This situation can damage the mechanism. You can correct this situation by turning the levelers (located under the front of the chair) to raise the footrest enough to clear the carpet.
Yes! Use a proper surge protector to safeguard your electrical system on your recliner or lift chair. Lightning strikes and power surges can damage electrical parts.
Your UltraComfort power lift chair comes with a battery backup system so the chair can return to the seated position in the event of a household power failure. The batteries have enough energy to bring the chair to a seated position from the recline position. The batteries do not have enough energy nor are they intended to operate the chair for a prolonged period of time and should not be used in place of standard household voltage (120 volt, 60 Hz). Batteries should be replaced after one use. Replace the batteries yearly, regardless of use or not.
While standing next to your chair, press the chair up button and raise the chair to a height you can sit against. This height will vary from person to person depending on the individual’s needs. Raise the chair high enough so you do not have to flop down into the chair.
Flopping down into the chair will damage it and could cause personal injury. Press the chair down button. As the chair continues downward, adjust yourself into a position that is comfortable to you. Continue pressing the button until the chair is in the seated position, meaning that the chair is firmly on the floor, then release the button.
To get out of your chair, press the chair up button and raise the chair to a height that enables you to easily stand. Release the button. Exit the chair. Return the chair to the seated position (chair firmly on the floor) after getting out of the chair to avoid the risk of children, pets or any obstructions getting under the chair.
- Do the lights on the remote go one when you press a button?
- Yes, but the chair doesn’t move. Your chair is locked. Follow the unlock or reset procedure:
- Press and hold the Memory Button (M) for 4 seconds until the backlight starts flashing.
- Press button A, Press Button B, press button C, then press the ZG button.
- Yes, but my chair is randomly starting or stopping. What is the condition of your remote? Is the cord kinked? Over a period of time, kinks in the cord can stretch and ruin tiny electrical cables inside the cord. Eventually this shorts out the remote control and you'll need a new one. To avoid cord damage, keep it free of the chair or any other furniture.
- No lights are going on. Look at the power transformer (brick-sized) attached to the cord below the chair. There should be a green light coming from the transformer to the chair. If no green light shows, the chair doesn't have power. Make sure it’s plugged into the transformer and that the transformer is plugged into a working outlet. Plug in something else like a lamp, and turn it on to test the outlet. Troubleshoot these issues prior to a service call avoids unnecessary service charges to you such for issues not covered under the chair warranty. If there’s power going to the wall, but not coming through to the transformer you might need a new one. In that case, unplug the transformer and bring it into the store for us to test and replace if necessary. For Chair Warranty information, click here.
A lift chair will provide ease of sitting and reclining in the chair and standing from the chair through an automated lift option. A lift chair that is not also described as a sleep chair, is not designed for extended sleep or use (although cat naps are okay!). A chair described as a sleep chair also provides a lift option, but is designed for 18 hours of use per day, including sleeping.
With a two-position lift chair, when the chair is reclining and the footrest is going up, the angle between the backrest and the seat does not change. With a three-position lift chair, when the chair is reclining and the footrest is going up, the backrest also reclines back further, providing a wider angle between the seat and the backrest. This chair can also recline more fully into a “sleeper” or “napper” position.
Press one of the pre-programmed buttons (ZG, TV, SIT, REJUV) and hold the button down until the chair stops. Press buttons (A thru D) to micro adjust specific positions to suit your needs. After you have the chair in your desired programmed position, you should be set. However, if you want to reprogram the memory buttons at any time, refer to the following procedure.
1. When you are in the desired position, press and hold the memory button (M). The back light goes off while pressed.
2. In about 3 seconds the backlight will start flashing (one flash).
3. Within 5 seconds, press one of the memory buttons to save the position to the button pressed. The backlight will return to a non-flashing position indicating that the new position is stored. If a programmable memory button is not pressed within 5 seconds, or a non programmable button is pressed, then the programming sequence is aborted and you will need to repeat steps 1 to 3 above. You may reprogram the memory buttons as often as you like.
Factory Reset is NOT how you calibrate your chair. Use the factory reset when you wish to clear your saved positions. Factory Reset will reset all the programmed buttons back to the original (factory) settings.
1. Press and hold the program button (M) until lights on hand control flash.
3. Within 5 seconds, press button (A).* The backlight will change to non-flashing.
4. Within another 5 seconds, press the button (D). Factory reset is done.
*If button (A) is not pressed within 5 seconds, or a different button is pressed, the programming sequence is aborted and you’ll need to repeat steps 1 to 4 above.
Chair Calibration sets the chair for positions specific to your needs. Depending on use over time, the position buttons may stop bringing your chair to the full position initially calibrated, and you’ll need to perform a position accuracy calibration. Your chair will also need to be recalibrated if there is a power disruption. To calibrate or recalibrate your chair, follow the video specific to your chair here:
